Sandstone attends National Vintage Tractor & Engine Show

2nd November 2007 - updated 11th November 2007

Charles Viljoen and Leon Flynn represented the Sandstone Heritage Trust at the National Tractor & Engine Show in Cradock under the auspices of SAVTEC. Sandstone's primary exhibit was our Sentinel, together with our Ford F100 featured here (6591).

The two tractors are en route to the Bathurst Museum near Port Alfred.

Arthur Wilding brought his Aveling & Porter Agricultural engine all the way up from the Western Cape. It is a rare sight to see any sort of steam traction engine at a heritage gathering of this sort in South Africa.

The Western Cape Club who hosted the Villiersdorp Show two years ago were very well represented. Sandstone hauled their items over 800 kms - it must have been a similar distance for the people from in and around the boland.

There was a very large selection of stationary engines on display too numerous to photograph or mention. In fact there were probably more stationary engines than tractors at this particular show.

Jonathan Amos-Brown on his John Deere Hi-Crop 40 is always a friendly and familiar sight at these shows.

These gatherings are all about people. A lovely candid shot of two enthusiasts having a chat. Charles Viljoen is obviously catching a nap in the cab of the Sentinel after one of his many excursions into town.

A blacksmith's shop was uplifted lock, stock and barrel and was in operation for all to see and enjoy.
