Sandstone’s Morris Ten from 1933

IMG 20240920 WA0000We recently ran a story on our Morris Ten after its restoration was completed, see:

https://www.sandstone-estates.com/index.php/classic-cars-64/45-classic-cars/3786-one-of-our-favourite-cars-at-sandstone

Since we published that article we have established that our vehicle’s chassis number, 2673, identifies the car as a 1933 model and not a 1934 model as originally thought.

One of our favourite cars at Sandstone

One of our favourite cars at Sandstone is the 1934 Morris 10 which had a partial restoration some years back but has now been completed to the highest standard by Lukas Nel. Yes! that Lukas Nel of steam locomotive fame and a man of many talents.

A special find in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

A visit to Bulawayo in Zimbabwe in 2019 resulted in a splendid find, a 1931 Dodge Brothers Hunting Van which was acquired from the owner by Sandstone. After many delays, thanks to Covid and export issues in Zimbabwe, the vehicle finally arrived in South Africa in February 2023.

A view from a train!

The Sandstone Steam Railway is well served by access roads which enable photographers to get to many varied locations. Of course very often  those on the road become subjects of photography from the train. In this short video clip from Stars of Sandstone 2019, with the train running alongside the airfield, we see Peter George and Susan Hesketh in their 1928 Chevrolet Coupe which they brought from Swaziland for the event. The next sequence is UK visitor, Gordon Fry, trundling along in Sandstone’s 1947 MG TC. Amazing views from a train!

A Hupmobile and the Sandstone Connection

The Crankhandle Club’s recent  CHC Chronicle contains a fascinating article on a 1920’s Hupmobile and a long lost connection to Sandstone which makes for fascinating reading. That the connection is nearly a 100 years old is even more intriguing. Click here to read more

MG Car Club visits Sandstone

REPORT MG INDABA - 23 SEPTEMBER 2012

A variety of beautifully restored MG’s (150 of them) started arriving at Sandstone at 10h30 on a bright and sunny Sunday morning (Friday & Saturday were heavily overcast days so all involved were thrilled with the weather).  They had arrived from Fouriesburg Country Inn where they had enjoyed a cup of coffee with scones.

Man and Machine

At the Sandstone Heritage Trust 365-days of the year, or more particularly when there is an event on such as the Kalahari Sunrise, there will always be this wonderful synergy between man and machine.

One of our passing photographers came across this interesting scene.  The Model T had broken down but it attracted attention from passing motorists and the Fire Department.

Everybody piled in to help and the Model T was soon on its way.

HTN 58 - African Odyssey Vintage Car Rally - Johannesburg to Nairobi - September 2006

Sandstone Heritage Trust - News

September 2006

The Sandstone Heritage Trust will be participating in this special overland safari between Johannesburg and Nairobi in September 2006. The vehicle chosen is a 1947 Ford V8 Pickup.

The Sandstone Heritage Trust has a large selection of vehicles to choose from but this particular item has been chosen in order due to the inherent reliability of these vehicles and the fact that it has good clearance and good load carrying capacity. We understand that the tour is fully booked.
