Sandstone’s Morris Ten from 1933

IMG 20240920 WA0000We recently ran a story on our Morris Ten after its restoration was completed, see:

https://www.sandstone-estates.com/index.php/classic-cars-64/45-classic-cars/3786-one-of-our-favourite-cars-at-sandstone

Since we published that article we have established that our vehicle’s chassis number, 2673, identifies the car as a 1933 model and not a 1934 model as originally thought.

As the Morris is one of our favourite exhibits at Sandstone, we also decided to look back in time at the advertising for the Morris Ten, and Morris cars in general, back in the 1930’s. We managed to find only one Morris 10 specific advertisement but it appears that Morris, with its wide range of models, mainly by size, often used generic advertising relating to their model range at the time. The specific ad for the Morris 10 is the undated cover of The Autocar magazine with the car costing £175 and shown as the Ten Four, which it was called from 1933 with the introduction of the additional six cylinder model so that gives us some indication of the date of the magazine.. We also have  two more generic ads for Morris cars in The Illustrated London News of June 9th  1934 with a plea to “Buy British” and another from The Illustrated London News of March 17th 1934 which puts up an early case for “Women’s Lib”! The style of the ads is very 1930s and very elegant.
