The last Sunday Flugel
28 February 2008
Breaking with previous tradition, I attended the Sunday running day last week as well. The photographic results allowed that I do a whole Flugel for that event....................
On my arrival, I caught sight of brake testing being done for the annual inspection of rolling stock. The brake testers left boot can be seen at the lower L.H. corner of the wagon. The owner of the boot? None other than our Nigel Hogg. (He's a bit camera shy I think.)
Here's a combination you don't see every day. Crane 277 with coal tubs on the runner.
The locomotive is the focal interest. In the smoky haze distant, there's a great number of people. How many belong to the Clean Air society I wonder?
Here they come, the leading couple in period dress. Somebody must have said we're about to leave.
Just behind the previous picture, I heard the tram stop and caught these people alighting to catch the train. The tram is ex Brisbane Australia.
Now down at the Ferrymead Station end, I took this to show the Tram Shelter and the line leading off to the township at the other end. Andy, your favourite rock is behind the telegraph pole. Note the newly laid tram track. Done in correct rail section. The Ferrymead Station is to the immediate right.
About to move off.
Gliding into Moorhouse Station with just a few intending passengers waiting.
The time honoured traditional shot with the time honoured traditional rock as well.
Who ever looks at the back of a train? Well, here's one such shot. The 'D' has reached the limit of its run to clear the signals and points so it can return and couple up. Note that the tide is well in.
Not often does the light allow a reasonable picture of a platform full of passengers as seen here.
From up in the signal box we see a train returning from Ferrymead.
Here's a surprise for you. (and me) Mirthful Max is learning the ropes in the box and a good job he's doing too. Out of shot, Keith Brown is the instructor. Max has had his employment duties altered, hence his non appearance on a Thursday. Good to catch up with him. (Good to see you Max. Look forward to seeing more of you in the weekends. You can't escape Flugel that easily!)
The 'D' doing its run around.
That's it for tonight folks. We'll get back to the workshop later. 'K'.
