WN27 - Every Day Flugal - by Kerry Young

28th January 2007

A really good day weather wise. What a pleasant change! Life at the glue factory went well too.

01

Remember the gate? That great big heavy gate? Look, it's now in place. For my money, it looks a whole lot better than the bushes that were there before. Thanks indeed to Keith and Graham.

02

A very short distance to the right, we see this Post Office truck. Brought out to do some repairs to displaced wires. Odd to see it and the Pie Cart together I thought. You can just discern a very small portion of the gate behind the truck.

03

In the workshop, our Jimmy was boring out the centres of these trolley wheels for axles on a new trolley being made. The spoke section is wooden and it was thought it would look good in varnish. Somehow, I can't see that happening.

04

In the doorway, Steve was working on cleaning up the wiring conduit and fittings for the 'F' cab.

05

The juniors did a shunt to clear the yards and here they are putting the collection in the only available space.

I did some brake pipe repairs to the 'N' wagon and didn't take a photo. Bob the builder was still building and Roger was doing a mission to help a fellow society.

06

After morning tea, another run was made to check the tracking of the pantograph on the Electric Multiple Unit, which shall henceforth be reported as the EMU. The scene depicts the conductor wire near the centre of the shoe in the pantograph. We found in two places that the wire ran to the very edge of the shoe and so it was decided to realign the conductor wire further.

07

Almost halfway between the two stations and here's Bert who has slackened the clamp for the wire standoff and is gently persuading the assembly to move further to the right. Pete Soundy looks on.

08

At another stand off and even further persuasion was needed to shift the conductor wire.

09

From the vantage point of a small peninusla in the estuary, we see the team in action, except for Callum Jones, who is driving. Again, Andys Castle Rock shows beside the operating platform.

10

Almost on the very end of the line, Bert arranges a leakage test from the rails to true earth. By the end of the day, next to nothing was recorded. That's good, as there's a Tramway right nearby, (just out of shot) which runs at half the line voltage of the railway, not to mention the signal current returns and other operating electrical circuits.
There will be quite a number of readers who now want to see the rest of the day. Not just now my friends. There's a sequel to come very soon indeed and all will be revealed. But for now it's , Cheers, 'K'.
