It is always a joy for us and our staff when we have visitors who really appreciate what we do in the heritage world at Sandstone.
It is even more enjoyable when the groups include younger visitors. The recent visit by the NVK, from Parys, was one of great enjoyment for our staff and the visitors. The younger ones were amazed by the oxen, especially when they were in spanned to the ox wagon. One of the older visitors took time to explain to the younger ones the significance of the oxen in South African history and farming. After a tour of the heritage exhibits their visit was completed with a steam train trip to Grootdraai with our 1916 steam locomotive, NG10 number 6, “Ouma”, the sole survivor of its class. Lunch was taken outside the Waenhuis for many of group while others enjoyed the splendour of our two vintage dining cars. Enjoy the picture gallery of the visit!
