Sandstone's Heavy Haulage Department prepares for another week on the road.

It has often been said in Preservation circles that the people with the big rigs inevitably make the biggest contribution to Preservation. How true is that. Unfortunately with the diesel price rising inexorably this is becoming ever more difficult to put into practise. Sandstone operates three big long haul trucks.

Our pictures below show Thabiso, our main long distance HGV driver, preparing his vehicle and trailer for three trips down to Harding in Natal to collect railway wagons. This will keep him on the road for approximately 10-days. The loading is always particularly tricky and can take an entire day if all goes well. Thabiso has been with the company for nearly 20-years and is one of our original employees.

Although we do not normally contract out we would be receptive to people who need things moved, particularly where we are forced to ride empty, i.e. without back loads.
