Sandstone’s cattle enterprise continues to grow steadily.

The bulls are now with the cows so we can expect a bumper crop of calves around about August/September this year.
When Sandstone Estates was acquired we joined a number of farms together and in many cases took down the fences so we could have a more open landscape which made arable farming easier. What we are now doing is identifying the grasslands which sit between the cropped lands so that we can fence them off as part of a better husbandry programme.
One interesting feature is the recycling of old gates, and more particularly the use of traditional sandstone gate posts and corner posts.
One interesting benefit of the aerial photography recently taken at Sandstone Estates is the fact that individual parts of our complex were photographed very accurately from the air. The excellent work carried out by Johannes, our stonemason and his team, is clearly reflected in the photograph below. This work continues. We have a 5-year programme to use all the sandstone that is currently being recycled from buildings on outlying farms that are no longer being used.
