Sandstone Media Review

In the Press

The magic button for the ”In the Press” section which covers all our media mentions is just below the main home page image on the Sandstone site. Over the recent weeks we have done a major revamp on the site to bring together all the media mentions we have had over the last few years since the web site began in 2005. To celebrate this we have put together a short Media Review of the latest stories which we know you will enjoy! Click here to see the review then click on the magic button, “in the Press” to see our varied media coverage since 2005.

Old Glory Mag
Old Glory March 2023

Our upcoming Easter Steam and Cosmos Festival, in April 2023, has received a couple of mentions in the latest edition of Old Glory magazine together with a short write up on our Cherry Festival Event last November. One article is in the Vintage World section by Derek Rayner, which also covers a story on a South African Aveling & Porter portable engine at Springs near Johannesburg. The main magazine also features the new Sandstone book, “The Sandstone Steam Railway, the story continues”  which receives a favourable review. Our thanks to Old Glory magazine for this excellent coverage!

Stationary Engine

Sandstone’s National Engine

One of the major attractions at Sandstone is the 1935 National Oil engine situated inside the bar area at the Waenhuis Restaurant in the main complex of Sandstone. The distinctive thump, thump of its exhaust is well known to many of our visitors. Sadly it suffered a major failure at our Easter event in 2022 but was repaired in time for the Cherry Steam event in November 2022 thanks to the efforts of the Curator of the Stationary Engine Museum at Sandstone, Danie Pretorius, and Andy Selfe.

Stationary Engine magazine, the premier periodical on stationary engines, has published an article by Andy Selfe on the National and its repair. Andy has raised a query that readers of the article may be able assist with regarding the air receiver on the engine. If you can assist, please get in touch with us : Contact Us
