Old Postal Van

This impressive old postal van has now been delivered and installed on-site. It has been placed on a section of rail immediately behind the Waenhuis. This wooden paneled vehicle was used as an on-line sorting office between major centres. Bulk mail was obviously loaded and then sorted so that post could be dropped at each destination along the way.

We are currently planning to convert it into a bar for guests visiting Sandstone Estates. Our current bar is in the engine room where our National engine is installed, which is unsatisfactory. The T900 Kenworth that hauled this postal van from its previous storage place at the now defunct Ficksburg locomotive shed was imported specifically from Kenworth in Australia in 1992 in order to add muscle power to our Heritage Heavy Haulage Division. It has been in the ownership with Sandstone Estates since new.
