The bits and pieces Flugel
30th September 2007
A bit of this and a bit of that and not a lot of any one thing. Very muddled. Not helped by the absence of our Jolly Roger who had a funeral to attend. Something we are all getting more of these days. :-(
So let's dig into the mail bag and see what we can offer.....................
Let's begin by going back to last weekend. I called in to see the tracklaying in progress at the Truscotts Rd crossing.
Not spectacular visual effects, but what's happening is the adjustment of the vertical alignment. It's not obvious, but the track either side of the crossing has had to be involved also.
Our Alison with the paint brush, putting the grey on the outhouse. What's the bet she's going to tell me this isn't her best side? I'm here to tell you that she's done a power of work over many years for the society and not all of it easy either. That's James sitting there removing his gloves. Another hard worker.
Here's a different view for you. The work train, back from the crossing to the Ferrymead Station side. On the very left hand end is the compressor which has not long blown a hose. Sharp eyed readers will have noticed they are using our second crane for this job.
Back at H.Q. today...................
Ray Shearman, working on greasing the rods on 'Tr156'. He's just encountered a blocked grease fitting.
Wondering what's inside the panel that's off? Nothing out of the usual.
The troublesome steam air compressor. We've taken the head back off and checked the shuttle valve which is in good order. In the head you see the rod that operates the slide valve that operates the shuttle. The angle iron is the beginnings of a setup to pressurise the head so we can manually operate the slide valve.
Mention of compressors...................
As mentioned earlier, the Broomwade compressor blew a hose. Colin is busy removing parts to allow us to get at the fittings for the faulty hose.
A hose and fittings being removed to give access to the blown hose further back. By days end, Colin had a new hose with the end fittings pressed in place and we mounted it and the previously removed parts and successfully test ran the compressor.
Well done Max! This is a great amount of work he's done on the underside of the roof of 'A222'.
There don't seem to be a lot of volunteers offering to help.......... Me either.
Brian the Lion sanding down a pair of colour light signal poles prior to another coat of paint.
End of day and here's Sir Colin bringing in 'Tr22' to put it away for the night.
Â
Because I was short of pictures, Colin offered to send me a couple and as he takes more interesting pictures than me, I jumped at the chance...........................
Remember the special run we were to do a while back? We did another earlier still for a film crew. Seen here setting up for one of their shots.
Then another picture at the level crossing seen earlier.................
Not only did Colin get this great reflection, he thoughtfully got Andy's Castle Rock as well.
Thanks very much Colin. A pleasure to share. Cheers, 'K'.
