Too Cold Flugel - by Kerry Young
12th July 2007
Well, it's Winter I suppose, but the fact that it is, doesn't make you any warmer. The only thing that helps is that I ,arrived home to mail from two widely separated friends in South Africa and both complained bitterly about the cold. Somehow it helps!
Lets' see what we have in the way of progress on the workfront....................
The pictures are poor this week, it's a trial with it being so dark, I tried using the flash more and got foggy results for my trouble. I've had to rework most of the pictures. Here the front deck has been tried for fit and then slid back further to allow the final tightening of bolts and drawgear and of course checking everything before the deck goes on for keeps.

Roger is fettling a gascut edge on a deck filler plate and the foredeck has been slid into position.

The now familiar magnetic based drill was brought out to make the bolt holes for holding the deck down.

Steve is seen drilling the bolt holes in the firedoor mounting plate.

Mirthful Max has been particularly busy on the roof of 'A222'. The stripping is all but complete.

Inside the car? One side laid and the other about to be started. By days end they were well on with that too.

Most of the old flooring was in good order and the timber will not be wasted. Keith spent some time stripping the nails from the boards, which will be recycled.

A true artisan at work. What delicate recovery in progress? The highly technical process of shaping a broom handle to receive a head. Graham gives the attention the job deserves.

No sign of Bob the builder, but you can see the battens being placed to cap the roof covering.

Callum is seen learning gas cutting skills as he creates a deck filler plate.

Another picture showing a missing artisan. Sir Colin was here doing his sanding thing, but escaped the weekly record this time. This is a very long dreary undertaking and it says much for Colins temperament to be able to stick with it.

I probably ought to have put this at the front, but if you imagine this scene with a temperature of about 4 deg C. and a wind chill factor somewhere round the zero mark, you can share our day.

This is something of an act. Steve has made good progress with mounting the adapter plate to the boiler and the firedoor to the plate. Mike Webb has been following this job closely and he is seen here pondering the look of it.
